Tachograph mandate for Light Commercial Vehicles from 2026 Get ready now!

 

From July 1, 2026, light commercial vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of 2.5 tons or more that are used in cross-border freight transport or cabotage must be equipped with a smart tachograph.

The tachograph mandate affects all light trucks and vans if their permissible total weight, including trailers or semi-trailers, exceeds 2.5 tons and if they are used in cross-border freight transport or in so-called cabotage – i.e., domestic freight or passenger transport by a foreign transport company without a registered office or branch in the country concerned. 

Regardless of this, the tachograph requirement continues to apply to vehicles designed or permanently intended for the transport of more than nine persons (including the driver).
