DTCO 4.1b – the new generation of tachographs

By August 19, 2025, all vehicles over 3.5 tons operating across borders in Europe had to be be equipped with a smart tachograph of the second version, such as the DTCO® 4.1b. VDO's flexible universal programming (#FUP) has standardized and simplified the installation of the new devices, regardless of vehicle model and year of manufacture. This means that, through clever programming, we can cover around 120 OEM variants with just four aftermarket variants, resulting in lower storage costs and improved product availability. A special algorithm ensures data compatibility and seamless integration.

The VDO UpdateKey is the ideal complement to the WorkshopTab 2, making DTCO software updates faster, easier, and more cost-efficient.

Thanks to its convenient Plug & Play functionality, the VDO UpdateKey is connected directly to the tachograph. The update runs in the background without blocking the WorkshopTab or workshop personnel. This allows technicians to continue their work uninterrupted while saving around 20 minutes per update – time that translates directly into lower operating costs.

KITAS 4 – The smart sensor for legally compliant tachograph systems

The KITAS 4 is a digital speed sensor for precise and contactless detection of the transmission speed. Developed for use in smart tachograph systems, it communicates with the tachograph in encrypted form and meets the highest security standards.

The sensor can be easily integrated into vehicles with combustion engines or electric drives, is EMC-certified and equipped with an integrated O-ring for transmission sealing. Thanks to modern technology and a tamper-proof dual signal, it is the ideal solution for legally compliant installations in your workshop.

Update cable

With the rollout of the second-version smart tachograph, regular map updates for geodata have become mandatory. These updates can be carried out directly on the tachograph using the VDO WorkshopTab in combination with the DTCO update cable. That is why the update cable should be part of the standard toolkit in every tachograph workshop.

VDO Label Printer

The VDO Label Printer creates tachograph installation labels quickly and easily – directly onto purpose-designed labels. Time-consuming tasks like removing old labels and sealing foil are a thing of the past. Thanks to high-quality thermal transfer printing, the markings remain legible for at least two years – until the next periodical inspection. The printer also adapts to different label formats, making it flexible and ready for future solutions, such as QR code integration.
