The VDO DTCO 4.1 is designed to receive software updates so that its security and functionality remain at the required level over the long term. Since July 15, 2026, the update to DTCO 4.1b has been mandatory for the DTCO 4.1 and must be performed no later than during the next periodic inspection.
In more and more European countries, authorities are checking during roadside inspections whether smart tachographs are operating with the latest software. An outdated software version may result in non-compliance issues and sanctions.
You can find the relevant guidelines on the Joint Research Centre website of the European Commission.
Check the installed software version on every DTCO 4.1 and perform any pending updates as part of the periodic tachograph inspection.
In addition, proactively contact fleet customers whose vehicles have already undergone a periodic inspection at your workshop with a DTCO 4.1 but did not receive a software update, and schedule an appointment.
The VDO WorkshopTab detects whether the respective tachograph requires an update and guides you through the entire process within the user interface.
