By integrating VDO's reliable tachograph data analysis into its Smart Compliance platform, Samsara offers fleet managers new opportunities for compliance and safety in everyday fleet operations.

The increasing complexity of regulatory requirements in European road freight transport poses major challenges for many fleet operators. At the same time, there is a growing demand for digital solutions that not only comply with legal obligations but also deliver tangible operational benefits. This is precisely where the new partnership between VDO and Samsara, the pioneer of the Connected Operations® Cloud, comes in.

Trusted tachograph data and VDO Fleet data analysis as the key for compliance

VDO’s expertise in developing digital tachographs and data analytics based on legally secure and tamper-proof tachograph data is the basis for supporting partners like Samsara developing new compliance services for their customers.

Samsara leverages the tachograph data analysis capabilities of our VDO Fleet Cloud to provide fleet managers with Smart Compliance, an integrated platform that combines all aspects of tachograph compliance: from data retrieval and analysis of infringements to communication with drivers.

Proactive instead of reactive – in 17 countries

A particular added value of the solution lies in its proactive approach: real-time audio alerts, for example, warn drivers in advance of impending infringements, such as exceeding the 4.5-hour driving time limit. At the same time, a compliance dashboard enables fleet managers to keep track of infringements, processing statuses and measures taken. This combination makes it possible to identify and avoid risks at an early stage.

Smart Compliance already supports the evaluation of tachograph data in 17 European countries. Thanks to the partnership with VDO, fleet operators can rely on established, country-specific regulations – an enormous relief for companies with an international footprint. Samsara plans to expand the service to 21 countries by 2026, including Belgium, Luxembourg and the Czech Republic.

How connected fleet management will work in the future

With access to reliable VDO tachograph data analysis, the partnership lays the foundation for further innovations from Samsara: from automated audit processes and advanced reporting functions to integration into national recognition systems such as the DVSA Earned Recognition Scheme in the United Kingdom. Connections to additional telematics services, such as weather warnings and route optimization, are also in the works.

The collaboration between Samsara and VDO demonstrates the potential of an open interface concept – especially when the right partners come together. Access to trusted data and the combination of compliance, telematics and driver support create an ecosystem that makes fleets more efficient, safer and more future-proof.
